I recently had the pleasure of working with Emilee and her family up in Breckenridge, Colorado for family photos. Although I am a Denver photographer, I love to get up to the mountains for some Breckenridge family photo sessions during the summer and winter seasons. My family and I have been going to Breckenridge for family vacations for over 12 years and it’s a special place for me. I love seeing families get together in Breck and enjoy the Colorado mountains with their loved ones.
There are many beautiful spots in Summit County and the area surrounding Breckenridge, but sometimes the classics work best for large groups. One of the more classic spots is Sapphire Point Overlook near Lake Dillon. Sapphire Point Overlook is perfect for families because you can literally drive up and park and the spot is right there. No major hiking or difficult terrain. It is a 15 minute drive outside of Breckenridge so this can be the only inhibitor. Sometimes, families prefer that I come directly to them, especially if they have a big group and several cars, etc. It’s just easier for everyone to stay put. And most places in Breck are going to have beautiful views. But if you’re willing to drive, Sapphire Point Overlook is gorgeous.
Anyway, Emilee’s family was awesome! They had so much personality and we had a great time with our family photos. The two little girls loved being in front of the camera and they are already on their way to becoming instagram influencers (lol). The two little boys on the other hand were not as into the camera and we had a few little melt downs but nothing we couldn’t overcome.
I also love the colors and outfits that the group picked out. I think denim with a pop of color can work really well for family photos. The orange/mustard yellow looks fantastic in the mountains and is very flattering for most people. And the denim is a classic look without being boring. It just works.
