Event Photography at Bigsby's Folly in Denver, CO

I recently had the pleasure of being the event photographer at the Corporate Holiday Party for Prescient at Bigsby’s Folly in Denver, CO. Bigsby’s Folly is gorgeous venue for events and parties! Located right near the train tracks in an industrial part of RiNo, Bigsby’s Folly has tons of character with exposed brick, wooden trestle ceiling, and awesome over head string lights to add to the ambience. It’s the perfect place for event photography in Denver because it photographs so well! It’s a little dark, so event photography here requires a flash! I loved shooting here and the party itself was super fun!

I got to shoot Prescient’s corporate headshots a while back. We did 40 headshots out of the 75 employee company. So when they contacted me again for event photography at their holiday party, I knew it was going to be fun. As with any party, people start out pretty tame and once the alcohol starts flowing, people loosen up and the fun begins.

I’ve found that when shooting event photography, it’s really hard to get good candid photos of people smiling and laughing for the first 30 minutes of the party. Especially at a corporate event. People shuffle in and are not sure what to think yet. Boring small talk is happening. They are looking for people they know and saying hi to people they might not know that well. So as an event photographer, that’s when you get the detail shots of the space and food that help tell the story. Let people get comfortable, feel welcome, and keep a smile on your face so they know that the event photographer is friendly and warm. Once they loosen up a little, then you can start hitting them up for group photos and candids and that’s when the fun happens!
